CANON 5DS R REVIEW IN PROGRESS I remember that day in 2006 when I got my Original 5D delivered right after the gigantic Canon launch, and just in time for my big adventure around the world. Canon was advertising and marketing the “full-frame” 5D as a true breakthrough in engineering and performance, one which would change the […]

Click here to download A7R RAW and TIFF files I usually keep quite a few notes when reviewing something photography related. Usually its a mess and I organize it in a formal video review at the end, but I thought I’d do something different this time.
The Sony A7R was released as the lightest and smallest full-frame camera with the resolution range rivaling that of digital medium format cameras. But is it really a game changer, or only a step in the right direction? Let’s take a look.
San Francisco’s Chinatown is one of the most photogenic locations in San Francisco, and that’s saying quite a bit considering the amazing landscapes and architecture in and around SF.
The concept of previsualization in photography is where the photographer can see the final print before the image has been captured. Ansel Adams dedicates the beginning of his first book to previsualization, and is often quoted as saying “Visualization is the single most important factor in photography”. Understanding then the significance of this approach is […]

I was recently published in the latest volume of International Masters of Photography Volume 2! There are some pretty incredible photographers in this book, so it’s a wonderful experience to be a part of it. Check out some of the photographers showcased in this book: Daniel Botelho – Underwater Photographer Steven Barger – Wildlife Photographer Skip […]
As you’re probably aware, the Sony a7R was recently released as the smallest and lightest full-frame camera with a resolution range rivaling that of medium format cameras such as the Hasselblad H2D and H3D.
As I write this post I’ve been on the road for a couple months traveling to 20+ national parks, shooting the fall colors. I’m not sure if you’ve heard of The Narrows, but it’s a beautiful narrow canyon hike in Zion National Park. If you get the chance, you have to check it out (if […]
I recently finished a trip traveling to 20+ national parks in search of fall colors. It was unfortunate to say the least to hear of the park closures in the midst of beautiful fall colors.
Photographer’s Forum Magazine, a magazine dedicated to the work and life of emerging professional photographers has just selected one of my imagers for inclusion in their upcoming annual book Best of Photography 2013! I have been a reader of Photographer’s Forum Magazine for quite a few years so it’s a very humbling experience! “While photography […]
The Photo Alliance ‘Our World’ annual photography portfolio review was held this past weekend in San Francisco. It’s a national juried portfolio review and some some 3,000-5,000 photographers apply to in hopes of getting their work seen by professionals, with around 50 accepted. I was lucky enough to be accepted and was pretty excited to attend.
SanDisk was one of three companies to develop and market the SD (secure digital?) in 1999. 14 years later (2013), SanDisk has gone from a 1GB CF card to a 128GB SD – quite the progress. This 128GB SD capacity ranks high as RAW file sizes, as well as 1920 x 1080/30/25/24p HD Video Capture, […]
This year I was lucky enough to be featured in EOS Magazine, one of my favorite publications – EOS Magazine.
Donsol is one of those off-the-beaten-track adventures that lives up to the traveler hype. Not too long ago it was hardly spoken of, barely on the map community, and now it’s a well-known whale shark migration spot where you can get up close and personal with these magnificent creatures.
The streets of the worlds most densely populated city is quite an experience, and a necessary one for any trip to the Philippines. Behind the seemingly hostile exterior, the traveler can find some of the friendliest people in the world on these streets, which are surprisingly safe, easy and fun to explore!
Travelers looking to get transport from Manila to the magical Donsol have a couple of options to choose from when planning trip: Air or Bus.
Architecture, food and music defines essential Chicago for me. There’s a lot of history here spanning Native Americans, gangsters, to jazz and blues music. Not only is this stuff in the history books, but its alive in the streets. A walk around the city brings the imagination alive wondering what it would have been like in the grand era, and the architecture and food of Chicago gives the backpacker reason alone to remember this city.
Without polish or elegance this is a metropolis of immense proportions that defies expectations. Manila is the worlds most densely populated city, and with a low surface quality tourists are often intimidated and easily discouraged from venturing into a city that begs adventure. If one can look past the surface layer, some of the worlds friendliest people and utterly authentic experiences wait to be discovered.
Villa de Leyva represents Colombian antiquity without the fabricated feel of a tourist mecca, and it’s a ton of fun! Vintage cars, immaculate Spanish architecture, open air markets and a beautiful landscape add to the charm that is Villa de Leyva.
Riding a Jeepney is one of those essential things every traveler must experience in the Philippines. Jeenpeys are highly regarded and beloved by the Philippines for their unique style and charisma, however to any bystander these reckless machines spew massive amounts of pollution, have zero predictability and are ridiculously fun.
Peer into a wonderland of spires, pinnacles, walls, arches and windows, all the more arresting for their vivid coloring; iron compounds, of red and brown, limonite yellows, purple & lavender.
